Marisa Somma, NTP

Nutritional Therapy Practitioner

Hey there, I'm Marisa.

I had been struggling with hormonal acne and debilitating migraines for years. For the acne, I had tried every topical medication, laser, oral antibiotic (except for accutane) and nothing worked. Every product I was given either made my acne worse or mostly got rid of the acne but then the side effects were horrible so I would get off the medication. Once I was off  the medication, the acne would come back. I was tired of what felt just a bandaid approach and was not getting to the root cause of what was actually causing my acne. I was also told by a dermatologist that “the only other option” is go on accutane which I was not okay with.

Simultaneously, I was having a similar experience with my migraines. I was getting debilitating migraines multiple times a week. No matter what medication I took, nothing helped and I would have to just ride out the pain for hours on end until it subsided or go to the ER for what they called a "migraine cocktail". I saw a neurologist who just kept prescribing me medication after medication none of which were helping and all had terrible side effects. I was told the next step was to try giving myself a medication that was a monthly injection to prevent the migraines from reoccurring. I really didn’t want to go this route. I was tired of having to cancel plans or having my day completely derailed when a migraine came on. I had had enough! I started doing my own research to get to the root cause of my migraines and acne and heal them in a more holistic way.

Once I started taking my health into my own hands, I really came to realize that food is medicine. The food and way I was eating was only making me feel worse. On top of it, the medications I was taking to "fix" the problems were only further causing imbalance in my body and not getting to the root cause of what was really causing my symptoms. It was just a bandaid approach! Nutrition has really become a passion of mine and  I decided I wanted to help others who are on a similar journey, so I decided to go back to school to study nutrition and become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. I am a strong believer that there isn't a "one size fits all" answer to optimal health. I  would love to help you dig deep to target the root cause of your symptoms and get you back to feeling your best!
